Royal Pains
Meet Hank Lawson, Hamptons’ newest doctor on demand. Uprooting his life to Out East, Hank enters the world of private medical practices and never looks back. Along with the challenges that come with being a doctor, Hank struggles with adapting to the lavish lifestyle of his most elite clientele. Although silly, the show gives a glimpse into the opulent lives of those who summer in the Hamptons.
The Affair
Unlike Royal Pains, The Affair shows a more accurate depiction of the local Montauk scene. While the show is focused on the dark emotional and psychological impacts of two simultaneous affairs, the Montauk backdrop is a key component to the show’s development. A prevalent theme throughout the drama’s five seasons is the new versus the old Hamptons, which shape the character’s lives and perspectives in more ways than one.
Revenge
Emily Thorne is seeking revenge on those who wronged her family, and what better place to do it then the scene of the crime, the Hamptons. While Emily’s beach house and Grayson Manor are filmed in Manhattan Beach, California, the entire show is set Out East. The show deals with popular stereotypes surrounding the Hamptons, including the socialite scene that is defined by wealth, beauty, and status.
Orange Is the New Black
While Orange Is the New Black has nothing to do with Hamptons culture, it was actually filmed in downtown Riverhead on the North Shore of Long Island. Piper Chapman, a successful PR executive, was sentenced to prison for her involvement with a drug runner 10 years back. The show explores the lives of inmates at a female prison in Connecticut.
Something Borrowed
The 2011 romantic comedy starring Kate Hudson, Ginnifer Goodwin, Colin Egglesfield, and John Krasinski, tells the story of a twisted love triangle, lies, and betrayal. Rachel unexpectedly sleeps with her longtime crush, Dex, who happens to be engaged to her best friend, Darcy. The plot thickens. The movie was filmed at a private waterfront home on Flying Point Road in Water Mill, and included footage of Main Street in East Hampton.
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
This Academy Award-Winning Romantic Sci-Fi movie stars Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey. After a dramatic breakup, Clementine undergoes a procedure to erase memories of her ex-boyfriend. When Joel finds out about these drastic measures, he undergoes the same procedure, which results in him forgetting the women he once loved. “Meet me in Montauk” is what Clementine whispers to Joel as his last memory of her before their relationship was erased. The movie begins in Montauk, and features Montauk’s famous Plaza restaurant which has since shut down.
Something’s Gotta Give
The 2003 movie starring Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves, and Amanda Peet explores the life of Harry Sanborn, an aging womanizer. Marin, Harry’s much younger love interest, takes Harry to her family's house in the Hamptons. Without any warning, Marin’s very disapproving mother, Erica, is also staying Out East for the weekend. As the movie progresses, we see that the real love story is between Harry and Erica. The movie is filmed in a large oceanfront mansion on Meadow Lane in Southampton which sold for $41 million in 2014.
