Who’s ready to be a Barbie girl in a Barbie world?
The World of Barbie is a new immersive experience set to bring the childhood nostalgia of Mattel’s most iconic doll to life. It starts in Toronto this summer and includes plans to reach various major markets in the United States.

While there isn’t too much we know for sure about the forthcoming exhibit, the website features a number of installation renderings ripped right from Barbie’s Dream House. There’s a laboratory, a rocket ship carriage, a professional music studio, perfectly-pink living spaces and more.
The official website promises plenty of Barbie-themed activations, and it’s safe to say the experience will spark excitement in all Barbie fans, from those who owned the first ever Barbie in her iconic black-and-white bathing suit to the children of today.
Before the introduction of a more diverse line of dolls, Barbie became a controversial figure within the public discourse. Mattel was targeted by activists for promoting unrealistic beauty standards for young girls.
These days, Barbie works to be more inclusive, creating Barbie dolls of all races and abilities. The interactive experience will serve to shed light on why we all fell in love with the timeless career woman in the first place: she has expanded our imaginations and fueled big dreams from the word go.
With an impressive resume that includes 72 different careers, Barbie has truly seen it all. From a police officer to a scuba diver to a TV chef, the magic of Barbie is the ability to create millions of different worlds for children (and adults!) to explore.
As the only piece of plastic in history to be deemed a fashion icon, Barbie's collection of looks takes us through not only a history of fashion, but the history of societal beauty standards, our world's ever-changing view of women in the workplace, and the social change that Barbie has reflected through the decades.
Whether you're going with children to take an inside look into Barbie's world, or want to treat the experience as a trip to a museum with admiration for the cultural impact of this doll, the forthcoming World of Barbie tour is sure to show us a side of Barbie we've never seen.
