By Laura Measher By Laura Measher | July 27, 2021 | Lifestyle Feature

From historical legacies to gorgeous water views, these six Hamptons golf courses are beating par by a long shot.

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club

History runs deep at Shinnecock Hills, the oldest incorporated golf club and one of the five founding member clubs of the United States Golf Association. Created in 1891, the club has been expanded and renovated many times, but the present course has remained since it was designed by William Flynn before the 1931 season. Reminiscent of courses on the British Isles, Shinnecock rolls over natural hills and provides picturesque views of the windblown grasses of Southampton. The property also features a comfortable clubhouse with exclusive amenities provided to members. 200 Tuckahoe Road, Southampton

National Golf Links of America

Located just off the waters of Peconic Bay, the National Golf Links of America spans 250 acres and offers a variety of Southampton topography. The National was founded in 1908 under Charles B. Macdonald and designed with the assistance of Southampton engineer Seth Raynor. The course was planned and constructed based on detailed notes taken while surveying golf courses in Scotland and England. Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course

Long known as a Hamptons favorite for public golf, this course is located in Montauk Downs State Park. Proximity to the ocean and bay creates inconsistent wind currents that keep the course ever-changing and ever-entertaining for players. The course was originally developed in 1927, then redesigned by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his son in 1968.
