Calvin Klein has officially quit the Hamptons—at least as a real estate investment.
According to a report by the New York Post, the famous designer and entrepreneur sold his last Hamptons estate for an impressive $85 million. This is the second Hamptons estate Klein unloaded with value of more than $80 million in this past year.
The famous fashion designer purchased this East Hampton home in 1987 for $3.6 million. The history of the house could be traced back to 1891 when it was designed by the famous local architect Joseph Greenleaf Thorp. The home was previously owned by the son of Juan Trippe, the founder of Pan American World Airways.
The new buyers are an anonymous LLC, and the purchase was finished in two off-market transactions, according to a report by The Dirt. The market lists the bulk of the estate as $75 million, and an undeveloped adjacent strip of land that makes up the additional $10 million.
During his time with the home, Klein built his own luxurious wonderland hidden inside the lot’s lush woods. The historical Manor spans both sides of the street, filling the more than 8.5-acres with a main house, an outdoor pool and a boat house in Georgica Pond. The last two amenities were added during Klein’s renovations, work that was eventually featured in a 1992 issue of Vogue Decorations.
Shortly after Klein purchased the residence, he brought in well-known architect Thierry Despont—who specializes in high-end residential design—to update the interior.
The living area occupies 10,100 square feet and features five bedrooms and eight bathrooms.
In 2003, Klein paid $30 million for an oceanfront mansion on Southampton’s Meadow Lane. The building was replaced with a modern glass abode and sold to hedge funder Ken Griffin last year for $84 million.
Though he may have vacated the Hamptons, Klein isn’t about to leave New York behind. He retains ownership of a 10,000-square-foot triplex penthouse in NYC’s West Village neighborhood.
