Celebrate this Independence Day in true Hamptonian Style.

Little-known fact: Gen. George Washington allotted double rations of rum to his soldiers during the Independence Day celebrations that took place during the American Revolution. Since those fateful days, our collective way of commemorating the Fourth of July has grown to include fireworks, parades, cookouts and, out East, barrels of rosé.

This year there are plenty of opportunities to mark this occasion with the area’s unique arsenal of wow-worthy moments. Sag Harbor gets the party started early, lighting the sky June 30 at the Long Wharf. Southampton hosts its Fourth of July parade followed by a country fair, concerts, children’s games and of course fireworks. Stars over Montauk also happens on the 4th, and Amagansett keeps the fun going with a display on July 7 at Devon Yacht Club. Whether you catch the spectacles from land or sea, the patriotic day (and weekend) will likely end in lobster-roll overload and post-rosé regret, which George Washington would, no doubt, approve of!
