Corcoran Group’s top luxury associate broker and real estate virtuoso Mala Sander discusses her 20-year career, divulges on a new listing and gives us a sneak peek into her life in the Hamptons.
Longtime Hamptons resident Mala Sander combines skilled expertise, decades of experience, passion and unwavering loyalty to provide her clientele with the highest level of care throughout their real estate journey—whether they are buying or selling a home.
Sander and her Corcoran Group team recently listed 11 Amherst Road, a property that brings paradise to life with its premier location on Sag Harbor, featuring four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Future residents can build their additional 3,134-square-foot dream home on the property, complete with a pool, for the perfect harbor getaway.
WHAT FIRST MOTIVATED YOU TO START YOUR CAREER IN REAL ESTATE?
By pure coincidence, I had recently left my job at IBM and moved to the Hamptons. As I searched for ways to occupy my time, I found myself drawing upon my extensive marketing experience to assist a local charity with its marketing and development initiatives. It was during this time that a colleague on the committee pointed out my talents and recommended that I consider a career in real estate.
The Sag Harbor safe haven features sunset views, a fully bulkheaded property and more.
WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR JOB?
Helping my clients realize their dreams is the most important and rewarding aspect of my job.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CHOOSE THE HAMPTONS AS YOUR HOME? My husband grew up summering here in the Hamptons and, from the first time he brought me to Sag Harbor, I was taken by the light, the water, the people and the beauty of the whole area. I knew I wanted to make it my home as soon as possible.
ANY INCREDIBLE CURRENT LISTINGS COMING UP THIS SUMMER? We just listed a fantastic waterfront property in Redwood, 11 Amherst Road. It is a dreamy, west-facing, 1/3-acre, fully bulkheaded property. I can’t wait to see what someone will build on that spot, among all the other gorgeous homes that have been created there.
WHAT MAKES THE PROPERTY AT 11 AMHERST ROAD STAND OUT FROM OTHER CURRENT LISTINGS? 11 Amherst Road is the only bulkheaded waterfront available in Sag Harbor Village, and it has sunset views to boot. The potential is beyond measure. Surrounding homes in this highly coveted Redwood location have all been newly built. This is the premier spot for Redwood’s newest home.
ANY STELLAR RECENT SALES YOU WANT TO SPOTLIGHT? I would say that last year was chock-full of stellar sales for our team, from Hampton Bays to Amagansett. It’s hard to single out one in particular. That said, waterfront properties are certainly our specialty. One of my favorites is a gorgeous Arts and Crafts home on 2 acres right on the beach in Sag Harbor Village, a very special house.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO PROSPECTIVE BUYERS? My advice is to connect with an experienced agent or, even better, a solid team. Begin an open dialogue about your priorities and your budget. Be flexible and open about the options presented to you, because opening the aperture will give you more of a chance to find the right property. Always be prepared to give your agent feedback on what they’re proposing and what you’ve seen. A good agent will guide you to the right properties for you and help you avoid the wrong ones.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING THIS SUMMER IN THE HAMPTONS? I love to relax and entertain at home, or travel via boat to one of the many fab waterfront restaurants in the Hamptons. A favorite meal for our guests at home is a mixed grill with grilled veggies and a fresh summer salad like watermelon and feta, followed by ice cream and fresh farm-stand berries. Out on the water, we love to zoom over to waterfront restaurants, whether it be to Sunset Beach on Shelter Island, Duryea’s in Montauk or Orient, and Sí Sí in Three Mile Harbor. $3.9 million, 11 Amherst Road, Sag Harbor, 917.902.7654, [email protected]
