Designer Tanya Taylor on her Hamptons Inspiration

By Stephanie Cain | July 15, 2018 | People Style & Beauty

How the casual vibe of the Hamptons inspires designer Tanya Taylor.

New York-based fashion designer Tanya Taylor has traveled the world in search of inspiration for her dazzling prints. But after finding a home in the Hamptons last summer, she now calls it her “forever peaceful place.” It’s certainly meant to be: Her playful looks are a perfect fit for relaxed coastal living.

What’s new at Tanya Taylor for this summer?
TANYA TAYLOR: My clothes are colorful and feel great in the summer. I hope they make people feel celebratory. Print is always our go-to, but we focused on conversational embroideries for 2018. All of our dresses can be worn with flats to the beach and into the evening. I love to be a bit more casual and comfortable in the summer.

Where do you find inspiration for your prints?
TT: Travel. I just got back from Mexico City. The colors, textiles and patterns I saw there will absolutely have an influence on my next collection.

The Hamptons must be relaxing compared to all your jet-setting. How do you spend your time out here?
TT: My favorite thing to do is play tennis in the morning, then go to the beach all day. I’ll cap it off with dinner at the Eleven Madison Park pop-up that’s back this summer. I’m looking forward to picnics with friends and swimming with my son.

Tell us about your ideal Saturday morning?
TT: I wake up early, ride my bike to Jack’s in Amagansett, and sit in the square with my husband in the sun. Then, I lie by the pool with Brazilian music playing.

What’s your summer uniform for it all?
TT: It’s a printed cotton dress, Ancient Greek slides and big vintage sunglasses.

I am always at EMP Summer House. Great food, and the games on the lawn are so fun to watch and take part in.
The Crow’s Nest is our go-to spot for sunset cocktails.
We love to start our day at Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee. We read the newspaper and enjoy the morning bustle.
Bostwick’s Chowder House is within walking (and stroller) distance of our place. It’s very lowkey and great for our toddler.
