Sag Harbor returns to its roots with the arrival of Dragon Hemp Apothecary.
A first of its kind in the Hamptons, Sag Harbor debuts its latest addition to Main Street: Dragon Hemp Apothecary. This modern apothecary-meets-vintage Chinese herbal pharmacy boasts a variety of artisan-crafted, therapeutic products—think New York State-grown organic full-spectrum hemp CBD extracts, premium Chinese herbs and organic botanicals. “In addition to Sag Harbor being white hot as a tourist destination featuring some of the best restaurants, culture and art galleries and installations in the Hamptons, Sag Harbor is considered to be the alternative medicine mecca on the East End and the gateway,” says Hamptons-local sports medicine acupuncturist and founder Kevin Menard. “It was also a major whaling and shipping port in the 19th century, its storied Long Wharf the base of much international trade with fishermen and traders from as far as China and Japan. Two hundred years later, Chinese herbs and plant medicine returns to Sag Harbor in the modern version of apothecaries that were quite common back in Sag Harbor’s early days.”
With over a decade of specializing in sports medicine acupuncture, Menard has found his niche in modern Chinese medical acupuncture integrated with traditional Chinese medicine, trigger point acupuncture and Japanese meridian styles plus advanced intramuscular needling techniques. In the store, you can shop his own practitioner-formulated products from his brand, Dragon Hemp. He explains, “Dragon Hemp Apothecary will be the home of the Dragon Hemp products, a line of therapeutic products made with full-spectrum CBD extracts, Chinese herbs and botanicals custom formulated to enhance performance, recovery and overall wellness, including improvement of sleep.” On the lineup are full-spectrum tinctures, capsules, balms for pain and soon-to-be- released CBD gummies.
“In addition to a retail space, it will also be an educational and experiential venue showcasing many of the Chinese herbs used in the formulations,” continues Menard. “Many people have a very limited understanding of CBD, cannabis and hemp extracts… and they know even less about Chinese herbs.” Here, customers can learn more about the health benefits and healing power of Chinese herbs and botanicals thanks to weekly programming and events from local practitioners and individuals in the healing arts—both Western and alternative. “The goal is to offer customers and patients access to premium and effective plant medicine-based therapies based in Chinese herbal medicine.” Treating a myriad conditions, the store opens its doors this Memorial Day to welcome in the possibility of recovery, performance and overall wellness for locals around the East End. 108 Main St., Sag Harbor, 631.899.4426, dragonhemp.com
