Different textures give each room a cozy and inviting feel
Interior designer Emily Del Bello brings the sun, sand and sea alive in this Southampton family home.
Pops of color and intimate details play up the shelves of this family home.
When interior designer Emily Del Bello took on the redesign of this Southampton family home, she set out to create a space that would serve as a refuge from the harshness of city life while reflecting the color palettes and tranquility of beach living. Sophisticated yet playful, Del Bello’s style meshed harmoniously with her clients’, resulting in many late-night text sessions swapping ideas of vintage furniture to bring the space alive. “It’s not your typical all-white beach house,” Del Bello shares. “It’s a more sophisticated, tailored beach vibe. The goal was to make the interiors feel like the location they are escaping the busy city from.” Inspired by her clients’ jocose family, Del Bello created a color palette filled with grays and blues that flows seamlessly from room to room, with the goal of making the finished product feel natural, light and lived in.
Asymmetrical details add levity to the home’s refined appearance
Hired in the fall, Del Bello had just under a year to prepare this home for the following summer season. With the enthusiastic collaboration of her clients, she moved quickly yet thoughtfully to create the perfectly polished yet functional interiors the family can enjoy year-round. Custom details tailor-made for the home’s residents can be seen throughout, from the custom Alexander McQueen Monarch rug by The Rug Company to the built-in bar designed by EDBI with quartzite countertop and backsplash. After a whirlwind process, Del Bello’s creation stands out as the eye of the storm: a breezy, diverting oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The light-soaked kitchen provided a challenge for Del Bello while retrofitting standout details like the custom marble hood accompanied by matching countertops and backsplash. Rather than build from the ground up, she worked around existing appliances and cabinets to revitalize the space with dignified marble features throughout. Creating a customized space that felt brand-new while working around the kitchen’s original dimensions was no easy task, but the result was breathtaking. The marble hood is a truly one-of-a-kind feature, tying the space together effortlessly.

Del Bello’s keen eye for detail is apparent in every nook and cranny of this home. Spirited touches throughout off set the otherwise stately rooms, like the custom wood canopy bed by the Brooklyn Home Company, the dining room’s rope-wrapped Cuff Studio globe lights, and undulating custom plaster art by Anthony Fadden in the living room. The homeowners were originally hesitant over the powder room’s proposed serpentine wallpaper by Relativity Textiles, a daring decision to make off a small-scale sample. Del Bello’s decision paid off, with the final result being obsessed over by clients and designer alike. “It’s just so fun when clients take that chance on our vision and they love the finished product,” says Del Bello. “It’s such a filling feeling when they are happy and proud of their home and final decisions.”
Unique finishes, like this custom canopy bed by the Brooklyn Home Company, add a personalized touch to each room.
A statement lighting fixture plays up the neutral dining room
By the time summer rolled around, Del Bello’s final touches on this Southampton retreat were complete. The project was flawlessly executed, transforming the home into the ideal retreat from hectic city life. Moving through the home evokes an uninterrupted flow between the serene surrounding beaches and interiors, inspiring the utmost calm in its residents and visitors alike. This family home is truly the ultimate elevated beach house, resplendent, airy and grand all at once.
In contrast to the home’s monochromatic walls, the bathroom features a patterned wallpaper and gold finishes.
