POLICY ADVOCATE, POLITICAL STRATEGIST AND PODCASTER EMILY TISCH SUSSMAN (EMILYTISCHSUSSMAN.COM) ALWAYS HAS HER FINGER ON THE PULSE. HERE, THE ACCOMPLISHED HAMPTONITE SOUNDS OFF ABOUT HER NEW PODCAST, PIVOT THE PODCAST.
How do you think your new podcast fills a void or need in the community? We need inspirational stories right now. We are in the midst of a massive societal shift as traditional definitions of success have changed dramatically and our personal lives are playing a bigger role than ever in our professional journeys. I am feeling it and at first felt like I was alone in the process, but have been surprised by the number of women who are in the same boat I am in. Women who have had these really pivotal life moments are more common than you might think, and stories of women who faced them and then found success are critical right now to help us all think bigger.

How do you hope to bring about change?Pivot The Podcast will not only celebrate those who have made bold moves in their careers but it will also inspire women everywhere to pursue their own nonlinear paths. My greatest hope would be for Pivot to help women turn a personal event that they might typically think of as negative into something that can launch success. I think so often women are juggling so many things, and it makes it hard to lean into something new. I have spent my career in politics working toward changes in law; now I am moving into culture change by telling the stories of women who inspire.

What other projects or news can we buzz for the year ahead?Pivot is launching with a bang this spring, and we are so excited to be partnering with some really incredible women and companies to both get the word out about these amazing women and hold a local event this summer. I’m also excited to moderate the Marie Claire series ‘Getting Down to Business’ and the Parents magazine Instagram series ‘Moms Who Run the World,’ as well as talk series for the 92Y and Hearst Magazines summits. I’ve had the privilege of interviewing incredibly successful women from Speaker Pelosi to Hillary Clinton, Yara Shahidi and Reshma Saujani.
