French designer Eres celebrates 50 splendid years transforming what women wear closest to their skin: swimwear and lingerie.
The Brera suit, $515, from Eres’ 50th anniversary Re-Editions collection
It’s hard to imagine a time when swimwear was sold only in summer, but back in 1968 if you had an island winter break in mind, you would likely be packing last season’s bikini. That’s when Irene Leroux founded Eres, ending this waiting game by selling swimwear year-round. Leroux further revolutionized her industry by relieving women of the corset-like boning many suits carried at the time. Using engineered fabrics, each suit would swerve at every curve, a move that rewarded the brand with 50 years of swimwear domination. Today the designs continue to be impossibly chic, featuring architectural cuts and the highly saturated colorways that only add to their allure. Once you try these on, there’s no turning back. 55 Main St., East Hampton, eresparis.com
