11/23: THE MET: LIVE IN HD—Philip Glass’ Akhnaten (Met Premiere)
Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo will headline American composer Philip Glass’ contemporary creation, with Karen Kamensek conducting. The stunning production by Phelim McDermott will feature acrobats and jugglers to conjure a mystical reimagining of ancient Egypt. 1-5pm, tickets $23, Guild Hall, guildhall.org
12/6-8: Hampton Ballet Theatre School presents The Nutcracker
The season’s most lauded production returns for three enchanting evenings. Hampton Ballet Theatre School students will transport the audience to a land where angels, snowflakes and flowers dance as Clara saves the Nutcracker Prince from the evil Mouse King. The ballet is choreographed by the director of HBTS, Sara Jo Strickland, with costumes designed and handsewn by Yuka Silvera and lighting design by Sebastian Paczynski. PARRISH ART MUSEUM
11/10-4/2021: What we see, How we see—The Permanent Collection
Each year, the museum creates a new show inspired by important artists drawn from the Parrish’s permanent collection of more than 3,000 works. This year’s seven-gallery installation features paintings and works on paper by a wide range of artists, including a gift from the Saul Steinberg Foundation, American Landscapes from the 19th to 21st centuries, and Circles, Squares and Squiggles. Artists Choose Artists
The three-month exhibition will highlight the unconventional relationships among the multigenerational artist community of the East End. Seven notable artist jurors selected two artists based on submissions and studio visits. The duos include Lillian Ball with Scott Bluedorn and Janet Culbertson, Valerie Jaudon, abstract painter, with Janet Goleas and Bastienne Schmidt, and more.
