Here, a divorce lawyer’s guide to the Hamptons’ most romantic foods.
It as no surprise that the most common question posed to me as a matrimonial lawyer is “How do you get divorced?” However, the second most common question I receive is “How do I stay married?”
Well, one way to ignite a spark is to share romantic foods with your beloved. Although most of us do not cook, or even know where the stove may be, there is still plenty of time this summer to pick up a new hobby and make a wonderfully romantic meal.
So, where to start? Luckily for us, there are many wonderful opportunities to purchase romantic foods in the Hamptons. Below are five of the Hamptons’ most romantic foods and where to procure them to make the end of your summer, a time to remember.
WINE
Well, wine speaks for itself. But in case it doesn’t— more science. When you consume wine, your brain produces oxytocin, which is connected to reproduction and emotions associated with love. From nearly the beginning of society, as I like to say, wine has been used to glance, take a stance and then romance.
For great wine in the Hamptons, why not start at the wineries! Of course I am talking about Wölffer Estate Vineyard, Duck Walk Vineyards and Channing Daughters Winery.
No matter how your summer has been so far, there is always time to begin again your romantic journey. Enjoy the ride.
DARK CHOCOLATE
To explain the effects of chocolate, forgive me for going into a science lesson, but my mother always wanted me to be a doctor. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine, which is associated with increased romance because of its effects on mood. With that out of the way, dark chocolate not only produces a natural high, but also equates to feeling in love!
So, where to go to partake in such treasure? Well, may I suggest Dylan’s Candy Bar in East Hampton, Le Dulce in Southampton, and Ben & Jerry’s in Westhampton Beach (which is also a chocolate store).
OYSTERS
Well, back to science for a moment. Oysters have unique amino acids that are known to stimulate sexual desire. Therefore, they are a perfect part of a romantic dining experience! Not surprisingly, there are many places in the Hamptons to find this perfect treat. How about trying The Seafood Shop in Wainscott and the Amagansett Seafood Store in Amagansett.
WHIPPED CREAM
Why is whipped cream romantic? Well, this is a family magazine so I will leave that to your imagination. To find this perfect treat, how about Citarella in East Hampton, Southampton and Bridgehampton.
HONEY
Long, long ago, in ancient times, honey was thought to be connected with love and fertility. Why change this now, especially since we have such wonderful honey outlets in the Hamptons. I suggest you try The Hamptons Honey Company in Water Mill and Sag Harbor Honey in Sag Harbor.
