Julien And Suelyn Farel Open Up About Their Hair Care Empire In NYC

From house calls to his upcoming wellness launch, Julien Farel has kept Manhattan’s mavens looking and feeling fabulous—even amid a pandemic.

"I fell in love with beauty at an early age cutting my mom and grandmother’s hair when I started at 14 years old, and saw how happy I made them, and how beautiful they felt,” explains celebrated hairstylist Julien Farel. “I love being able to enhance someone’s natural beauty, and make people be the best version of themselves,” he says.

Along with his wife, Suelyn (who serves as CEO of the Julien Farel Group), the couple have built a brand that includes a line of haircare products like the cult classics in the Restore line and his Delay the Gray scalp serum. Suelyn has been a driving force in pushing the brand toward a more holistic approach. “Beauty is from the inside out,” she says, noting their spa now offers everything from medispa services like skin tightening to Natura Bissé facials. Farel is also known for his annual U.S. Open pop-up. “Players actually wait between Wimbledon and the U.S. Open for a haircut to have their locks cut by our team,” she says.

Other regulars spotted holding court in the chair include Olivia Palermo, Kelly Rutherford, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Gucci Westman and Lauren Bush Lauren. “In these time-starved times, self-care is an integral part of daily life,” says Suelyn. “I think people today take more pictures in one day than our parents took in their whole lives,” says Farel. “They are very mindful of how they look—they want to look and feel great inside and out, and the hair and body must become one,” he says, noting that scalp health is always a root passion for him. Rumor has it Farel plans to both launch a beauty bar and take the plunge into the world of wellness later this year. “It’s still top secret… but of course it’s in our wheelhouse, hair!” When asked what else the future might hold for them, the power couple sees sunnier skies ahead. “We have exciting product developments on the horizon, as well as dreaming of a new Restore Salon & Spa somewhere sunny!”
