Supermodel Liya Kebede takes her passion project, Ethiopian-based fashion line Lemlem, and teams up with shoe aficionado Pierre Hardy.
“It took two seconds,” remarks model/designer Liya Kebede on her instant connection with French footwear designer Pierre Hardy (pierrehardy.com) three years ago. Now the pair have teamed up for a covetable footwear and handbag collaboration. Lemlem’s (lemlem.com) handwoven fabrics are made from all-natural cotton crafted by artisans in her native Ethiopia, where a portion of proceeds is devoted to support the community. The capsule collection’s fabrics have Lemlem’s familiar stripes and swipes of sunflower yellow and beach blue. Both avid Hampton-goers, they suggested where to take the collection out on the town: Kebede loves Sant Ambroeus for lunch alfresco (pair with heeled sandals) and a trip to East Hampton Cinema (bucket bag to not lose ticket). Hardy hits up Wyeth for vintage furniture (slip-ons for comfort) and Tutto il Giorno (fringed pouch for all the essentials). Just be prepared for the trail of onlookers chasing you down to find out who you are wearing.
