Dating expert Patti Stanger, producer and host of bravo’s millionaire matchmaker, shares her dos, don’ts and insider tips for those who are looking for love this summer.
Dating Rules to Live By: You’ve secured the date—now what? Stanger breaks it down into three simple rules. First, let him plan the date. “Let him be the man to your feminine energy,” she says, which leads to rule two. Do not discuss how awful it is to date; no love life talk. And third, learn more about this new man. According to Stanger (and we can attest), women tend to do the talking, but let him take the lead. Be sure to ask him about him, while carefully navigating the chat so he reveals himself to you.
Insider Tip: When you’re in the bathroom, take a second to see if he checks the “non-negotiables” on your list.
Where to Go: “Montauk is great for couples,” says Stanger, who recommends The Lobster Roll for a great date place. “It’s really romantic,” she says. While Stanger’s go-to spot, Le Bilboquet, is no longer open, a similar, equally tantalizing French bistro, Lulu’s Kitchen & Bar, is a must for date night. And, if you’re ready for that weekend away, reserve a room at The American Hotel in Sag Harbor for a romantic escape from the city.
Sail Away: Book a day on the America yacht, docked at Sag Harbor port. It will elevate your outing and relationship status.
What to Wear: Think beachy-chic when making your pick, and whether heading to the movies in shorts and a T-shirt or dining at a local restaurant, kick up your outfit a slight notch, but don’t overdo it.
Less Is More: Wear less jewelry and he’s likely to take notice of the pieces he can buy you in the future.
