Northwell Health's Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer Brian T. Lally talks community, upcoming plans for the organization and what guests can expect at this year's summer Hamptons evening.
Eric Moran, Victoria Moran-Furman, Iris and Saul Katz, and Larry Scott of Lawrence Scott Events served as last year’s hosts of Northwell’s annual Summer Hamptons Evening (SHE), which raises funds to advance women’s health.
CAN YOU TALK TO US ABOUT WHAT ORIGINALLY INSPIRED THE NORTHWELL SUMMER HAMPTONS EVENING?
The Summer Hamptons Evening (SHE) was inspired by the founders of the Katz Institute for Women’s Health, Iris and Saul Katz, the host Victoria Moran-Furman, her son Eric Moran and event planner Larry Scott of Lawrence Scott Events. They wanted to bring the story of Northwell’s amazing network of care for women to share in the Hamptons, and we helped them bring that vision to life.

HOW DO YOU PERSONALLY RELATE TO THE CAUSE, OR WHAT DRIVES YOUR PASSION?
Providing personalized care for women is important to me, and to many people in my life. The generous support from Iris and Saul Katz has made this a reality through the Katz Institute, as well as the Katz Women’s Hospitals at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. These resources enable our excellent caregivers to share best practices, educate the people and communities we serve, and integrate care across all our sites and facilities to ensure that all women have access to highly specialized clinicians who are well-versed in their unique needs. This has been realized through the Katz certification program, where you can search the Northwell network for physicians who have met rigorous standards for providing care to women of all ages.

HOW DO YOU HOPE TO BRING CHANGE IN THE COMMUNITY?
For too long, women have been overlooked by the medical community. By focusing specifically on the needs of women, we hope to impact the care that women receive, as well as enable research that focuses on them. Through the Institute for Health System Science, part of the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, we leverage evidence-based science, cutting-edge theories of behavior and emerging technology in complementary areas such as informatics, computer science, clinical decision-making and data science, changing the way physicians interact with patients and helping patients make personalized choices to improve their health and well-being.

WHY DO YOU THINK THE NORTHWELL SUMMER HAMPTONS EVENING RESONATES WITH HAMPTONITES SO MUCH?
We are so gratified that Hamptonites have embraced this important cause! I think they are intrigued by the opportunity to hear from Northwell’s clinicians and researchers while raising money for women’s health. This year’s event, on Aug. 12, will feature a leading gynecologic oncologist. We are also enhancing care for women out East—Peconic Bay Medical Center recently announced plans for their new Center for Women and Infants, which will feature private rooms and enable an increased level of care for women at all stages of life, including a more advanced level of breast health, urogynecology and teleneonatology.

WHAT IS UP NEXT FOR YOU AND THE ORGANIZATION?
We’re excited to continue expanding our network for women’s health. There is the new Katz Women’s Surgical Center in Glen Cove, and we are building new facilities focused on women’s health in Manhattan—at Hudson Yards and in the new Northwell Medical Pavilion at 77th Street on the Upper East Side—along with a center for women’s cancer in the R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center in Lake Success. To learn more about supporting women’s health and Northwell’s Outpacing the Impossible campaign, visit give.northwell.edu
